SK Group Chairman Tae-won Choi 안전놀이터(Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry) recently announced that he suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon while playing tennis. As a result, Choi will be attending the 12th Korea-Japan Chamber of Commerce Presidents’ Meeting for the first time in six years while wearing a leg cast.
“Three days ago, I ruptured my Achilles tendon while playing tennis,” Choi said on his Instagram, explaining the situation, “The moment I served and landed heavily, I heard a popping sound and a tremendous pain came from under my left calf.” He continued, “On the day I took a day off, I felt a lot of pain. “I thought I was going to play tennis on my day off, but I think my body was too stiff,” he said. “The x-ray showed that it didn’t need surgery, so I was discharged from the emergency room in five hours with only a cast.”
Choi explained that he was on his way to Busan to attend the presidency meeting of the Korea-Japan Business Council, which will be held for the first time in six years since 2017. The meeting was held annually from 2001 to 2017, but has been suspended since 2018 due to the Korea-Japan trade conflict and the coronavirus pandemic. “It is an important event for the Busan 2030 World Expo bid, so please pray for the successful conclusion of the event, even if my appearance is troublesome,” he said.
