Sumire Nakamura, a genius girl knight with high expectations in the Japanese Go world, won her first title as the youngest player in Japan.
Sumire Nakamura defeated Asami Ueno, 4th dan, with a total score of 2 wins and 1 loss, in the final 3rd round of the 26th Docomo Cup Women’s Tournament, which was held at Nippon Kien, Tokyo on the 6th, with 250 moves.
Born on March 2, 2009, Sumire became the youngest knight ever to win in Japan at the age of 13 years, 11 months and 4 days. The previous match was 15 years, 9 months and 10 days, which was recorded in 2014 by Rina Fujisawa (2nd dan at the time), which was more than 1 year and 10 months faster than Sumire.
Sumire, who also studied baduk in Korea, joined the pro in 2019 with a special recommendation for young talent. The prize money for the winning match is 5 million yen (approximately 47.65 million won).
As for domestic female knights, Choi Jeong 9th Dan won the Myeonginjeon in 2013 at the age of 15 years and 3 months, and the record covering men and women is Shin Jin-seo at 13 years and 10 months. In the overall game rather than the limited game, Lee Chang-ho’s 14 years and 11 days (KBS King of Baduk in 1989) is the youngest winner.
