PGA debut runner-up Kim Sung-hyun shoots for fall hopes

Sung Hyun Kim (Shinhan Financial Group) finished runner-up in the first event of the PGA Tour’s Fall Series.

Kim shot a 4-under 68 with four birdies and no bogeys in the final round of the Fortinet Championship ($8.4 million purse) at Silverado Resort and Spa (Par 72-7123) in Napa, Calif. on Monday (Sept. 18). With a final total of 19-under-par 269, Kim sits in second place, two strokes behind Sahith Sigala (USA). Sigala carded seven birdies and three bogeys on the day for a four-stroke victory.

The runner-up finish was Sung Hyun Kim’s best since joining the PGA Tour. Kim made his PGA Tour debut in the 2022-23 season after earning Rookie of the Year honors on the PGA’s second-tier Conferi Tour.

In just his third event, he tied for fourth at the Shriners Hospitality Open last October, but hasn’t finished in the top 10 since. He finished the regular season at No. 83 in the FedExCup standings and missed the playoffs.메이저놀이터

If he finishes the fall series inside the top 125 in the FedExCup standings, he could secure a spot in the 2024 season.

After parring his first nine holes, Kim reeled off four birdies in the second half to move into sole possession of second place. He picked up his first birdie on the 10th (par-4), then dropped shots on the 15th (par-5) and 16th (par-4) before closing with a birdie on the 18th (par-5) to take a two-stroke lead over third-place Cam Davies (AUS).

“It was the longest week I’ve ever had,” said Kim. I tried to stay mentally strong and play with a good mindset,” said Kim. “I think I played as well as I wanted to in the end and I’m happy with the result.”

The Fall Series continues with the Sanderson Farms Championship, Shriners Children’s Open, and JoJo Championship in October, followed by the Worldwide Technology Championship, Bermuda Championship, and RSM Classic in November.
