Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico, 29, is reportedly in serious condition after a fall at a horseback riding venue.
According to Spanish Andalusian newspaper El Mira on Monday (Aug. 28), Rico was rushed to the hospital with a traumatic brain injury. Rico reportedly fell off his horse and suffered a major head injury.
“Rico is in a serious condition. He is intubated because he has suffered skull trauma,” the source said. This seems to be an urgent situation, as tracheal intubation is usually used if he doesn’t regain consciousness.
The Spanish goalkeeper signed for Paris Saint-Germain in 2020 after spells with Sevilla and Fulham. Primarily a backup, he is also well known to fans at home, having spent the second half of last season on loan at Lee Kang-In’s club Mallorca.
Rico was granted a vacation this weekend after Paris 안전놀이터Saint-Germain clinched the French Ligue 1 title with a win over Strasbourg. He is believed to have spent some time recharging his batteries by going on a horseback pilgrimage in Seville.
Rico’s organizations, including Sevilla and Primera Liga, have expressed their best wishes for his recovery.
While it is generally believed to have been a fall, EFE reported that “he was traumatized by being hit in the neck by a runaway horse,” and RELEVO reported that “the horse he was riding collided with a runaway horse, leading to a fall,” so there is interest in the exact circumstances.
Rico’s former club, Sevilla, wished him a “speedy recovery” on their social media channels, while the Spanish Primera Liga also sent their best wishes on their official social media accounts.
