Woo Sang-hyeok, the ‘Korean high jump signboard’, ‘stands tall’ with a new record at the KBS National Track and Field Championships… Get a ticket to Hangzhou

Woo Sang-hyeok안전놀이터, the “hope of Korea’s high jump,” won the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, which will be held from mid-September, by setting a new record in the first domestic competition this year and standing at the top.

Woo Sang-hyeok won the championship with a new record (previous record: 2m30) by exceeding 2m32 in the men’s high jump final of the 51st KBS National Track and Field Championship held at the Yecheon Stadium in Yecheon-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do on the 9th.

Woo Sang-hyeok, who reached the top in this competition, which also served as the national selection match for the Hangzhou Asian Games, booked a ticket to Hangzhou as well as surpassed the standard record (2m32) for the 2023 Budapest World Championships in August.

Woo Sang-hyeok, who finished second after Jubon Harrison (USA), who surpassed 2m32 with 2m27 at the Doha Diamond League held in Doha, Qatar on the 6th in Korea time, returned home on the afternoon of the 7th and had to digest the tight schedule of the match.

However, even these burdensome schedules did not stop Woo Sang-hyeok from taking a leap. Woo Sang-hyeok, who easily crossed his first bar height of 2m16 in the first round, immediately raised the bar to 2m32, the standard record for the Budapest World Championships in Athletics. After that, he finished the game with success in his first period.

The 2m32 recorded by Woo Sang-hyeok this time is his best record of the season, and it is only 1 cm different from the world record of 2m33, the world’s No. 1 record in the world track and field outdoor men’s high jump this season.

After the game, Woo Sang-hyeok said through the Korea Association of Athletics Federations, “The standard record for the World Championships (2m32) is a record that is burdensome, but today I passed it and can prepare for the next competitions with a comfortable mind.” I had regrets, but I want to win a gold medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou this year.”
